Latest figures on Taser use by police forces published

5 May 2009

The latest figures for the use of Tasers by trained police officers in England and Wales were released today.

New figures show Tasers were used 187 times and discharged 35 times by specially trained units in the period 1 September 2008 to the 31 December 2008.

The recent figures show an increase in use following the successful trial in 10 forces across England and Wales to extend the use of Tasers beyond dedicated firearms officers to specially-trained police response officers. Following the trial, Taser was rolled-out to all forces from December 2008.

HOSDB continues to monitor the use of Tasers by all police forces - both by specially-trained units and firearms officers.

Statistics published today: Taser use by the police up to and including December 2008.
