Prison and offender security
HOSDB has been applying technology to help with the security of prisoners for many years.
Working in collaboration with prison services
We have carried out work for, and in co-operation with, all UK Prison Services. We have also worked with prison and probation bodies in the US, Canada, Australia and Sweden.
We provide technical advice and work with industry in the testing of new and innovative equipment for use in prisons. Our areas of expertise include:

security system reviews and assessments
Offender tagging
HOSDB is supporting the Government's electronic monitoring of offenders programme by providing technical support and assurance.This includes:

Advice on technical issues such as operating frequencies, approval of new equipment and radio frequency legislation requirements.

Security testing the monitoring equipment to ‘future proof’ the next generation of equipment against emerging technologies.

Auditing the contractors to ensure that their performance in technical areas matches that specified in the contracts.
We are also involved in assessing systems where the tags are linked to a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver allowing the subjects’ movements to be recorded.
